As you may or may not know, Victoria’s Secret has been a cruelty-free brand for years. In August 2015 the company officially declared that they would start selling their products in China. The Chinese government requires animal testing of all beauty products before they can be widely available for the public. Read more on Chinese policy in my previous blog post.
According to News For Shoppers Victoria’s Secret has no intention to sell clothing, bras and underwear in China. They will only sell fragrance and beauty items, such as make-up and make-up utensils.
This was a big disappointment for many customers who have been loyal to the brand for many years. They have been reaching the company via social media outlets asking them to stop promoting animal cruelty. Some customers showed their protest, by posting on Twitter saying they no longer will shop at Victoria’s Secret stores. Some of them asked the company to reconsider their policy. There has been no further news from the company that they would do so, though.
According to Peta.org Victoria’s Secret has been removed from their list of companies that do not test on animals.
If you do not agree with the company’s decision and would like to make your thought count, go to https://forcechange.com/136426/urge-victorias-secret-not-to-test-on-animals/ and sign the petition in order to urge the company to stop selling their products to China.
