You might have heard of Kesha brushing her “teeth with a bottle of Jack”, having a troubled reputation and personal struggles, going through numerous law suits, etc. But did you know that the American singer and songwriter has always been an avid animal rights activist? In fact she is a big cat person and always encourages shelter adoptions.
According to humanesociety.org Kesha received The Wyler Award on March 23 at The 2013 Genesis Awards Benefit Gala:
Named in memory of the late Genesis Awards founder, animal advocate, and Broadway headliner Gretchen Wyler, The Humane Society of the United States’ prestigious Wyler Award is bestowed on a celebrity or public figure who has made news on behalf of animals.
Music superstar Ke$ha is known for being outspoken, and that deep passion extends to a long-standing love of animals.
According to humanesociety.org, Kesha is also a Humane Society International’s first Global Ambassador for animals:
Ke$ha has spread the word about street dogs, the trophy hunting of endangered lions, shark-finning, Canada’s commercial seal slaughter, dogfighting and cruelty-free cosmetics, among many other important animal welfare concerns, highlighting a different animal issue each month on her website and urging her massive fan base and social media following to take action for animals.
Last year Kesha teamed up with the Humane Society of the United States to encourage usage of cruelty-free make up.
According to Billboard.com, Kesha said she knew she had to do something to help stop cosmetic testing on animals:
“Once I was educated about the hidden cruelties that lurk behind some cosmetic products companies, I knew I had to take action and do everything in my power to end this inhumane practice of testing our cosmetics on animals,” Kesha said in a press release. “Around the globe tens of thousands of animals are killed in unnecessary tests for beauty products. But even now it’s easy to avoid buying cosmetics tested on animals by only buying cruelty free products.”
